FAQs
1. What is a 4-link suspension system, and how does it benefit my Classic Mustang?
A: A 4-link suspension system is a type of rear suspension setup that replaces the traditional leaf springs with four control arms, two upper and two lower, to locate and stabilize the rear axle. This setup improves handling, stability, and ride quality by providing better control of the axle’s movement, reducing wheel hop during acceleration, and enhancing cornering performance.
2. How does the RideTech 4-link suspension system improve the handling of my 1964-1970 Mustang?
A: For your Classic Mustang, the benefits include increased traction, smoother ride quality, improved handling dynamics, and better control during acceleration and braking, making your Mustang feel more modern and responsive without sacrificing its classic charm.
3. Will the RideTech 4-link system fit my stock Mustang chassis, or will modifications be required?
A: No significant modifications are required to the Mustang unibody chassis to install this kit. 4 Tabs will need to be welded in place, and you will need to cut off the factory pinion snubber and mount. If you are using the optional axle tube weld-on brackets and not using the factory leaf spring plates, those will need to be welded on as well. Modifications may be required to your exhaust system.
4. What type of shocks are available with the RideTech 4-link suspension system?
A: We offer the full assortment of RideTech shocks for the 4-link suspension. This includes:
- HQ Series Single Adjustable Coil Over
- HQ Series Double Adjustable Coil Over
- TQ Series Single Adjustable ShockWave Air Spring
- TQ Series Double Adjustable ShockWave Air Spring
5. Will the RideTech 4-link suspension system lower my Mustang’s ride height?
A: Yes. The RideTech rear 4-link suspension can lower the rear of the car by 1”-3” depending on your adjustment.
6. Can the RideTech 4-link system be used with air ride suspension setups?
A: Yes. If you desire an air ride kit, please select either the HQ series ShockWave Air Spring, or the dual adjustable TQ Series ShockWave Air Spring. You can combine these with an air ride control system.
7. What is the expected installation time for the RideTech rear 4-link suspension system?
A: Installations can vary depending on several factors such as vehicle condition, exhaust clearances, whether you’re installing RideTech’s axle brackets and of course, installer experience.
8. Is professional installation recommended, or can I install the 4-link system myself?
A: Autoworks always recommends a professional installation with any system that you aren’t familiar or experienced with. With that said, this is one of the easier, more straightforward kits that we’ve ever installed. If you choose DIY, please refer to the instructions provided and feel free to contact us for any installation tips.
9. Is this system compatible with factory or aftermarket rear differentials and axles?
A: The RideTech 4-Link Suspension is designed to work with the factory leaf spring perches found on your Classic Mustang’s factory rear end housing. In the event that you are using an aftermarket rear end housing, we’d suggest using RideTech’s weld-on bracket kit in conjunction with your installation.
10. How does the RideTech 4-link suspension system affect alignment and geometry?
A: The RideTech 4-Link suspension significantly improves alignment and suspension geometry compared to traditional leaf spring setups. It allows for precise control over the rear axle’s movement, this keeps the axle aligned with the chassis for better stability. This system also allows for pinion angle adjustments, thus optimizing driveline alignment and reduces vibration.
RideTech’s system optimizes the suspension geometry by controlling axle movement through a specific arc, reducing squat, and allowing better weight transfer during acceleration and braking. This geometry provides a more predictable and stable ride.
