Description

1964-1970 Mustang fabricated transmission tunnel for T56 6 Speed, 10-Speed Automatic or TKO 500/600 5-Speed and more!

Our fabricated transmission tunnels are ideal for coyote swap applications featuring late model transmissions such as 6 speed automatic, 10 speed automatic, TKO 500/600, and T56 Magnums and XL. Standard Mustang transmission tunnels are too small to properly fit the latest high performance transmissions, especially those required for coyote swapped applications. Because the standard transmission tunnels are too small, they prohibit proper driveline angle when installing a late model transmission. After doing many coyote swap Mustang builds and building one-off tunnels for each of our builds, we now have the perfect fabricated coyote swap transmission tunnel that is now available to you at a fraction of the cost of a custom built tunnel. Order your coyote swap transmission tunnel solution now.

Don’t destroy your rear differential, because you failed to properly align your drive train.

Fitting a T56, 10R80, 6R80 and TKO transmission into a 1964-1970 Mustang is possible with our fabricated transmission tunnel.

Installation is entirely up to the installer’s preference, however below you can find our recommended tips to help with your installation process

FAQs

  1. Does the transmission tunnel require any modifications for installation?

A: Yes. Your original transmission tunnel and tunnel brace will need to be cut out of the car so your new Autoworks Tunnel can be welded in place.

  1. Is this transmission tunnel designed for both automatic and manual transmissions?

A: Our transmission tunnel is designed to fit most late model or aftermarket transmissions whether they be automatic or manual. We have tested and can confirm that our transmission tunnel will fit, at a minimum:

  • Tremec TKO 500/600
  • Tremec T56 (Magnum and XL)
  • Ford 6R80 6-Speed Automatic
  • Ford 10R80 10- Speed Automatic
  • Tremec TKX
  • Tremec T5
  • Ford AOD (Including AOD-E & 4R70W)

  1. How does this transmission tunnel affect the vehicle’s structural integrity?

A: Installation of the Autoworks Transmission Tunnel will require the cutting and removal of the original tunnel and floor support brace. Despite this, no structural integrity is lost. Your new transmission crossmember will add to the rigidity of the car, thus rendering the floor support brace unnecessary.

  1. Does Autoworks Parts offer any customization options for the tunnel?

A: Currently we offer an access plate cut out. This is primarily used to access the top of the transmission through the top floor pan of the car. We will offer additional upgrades as they become available.

  1. Is there a recommended transmission crossmember to pair with this tunnel?

A: There are several crossmember options available that can be used in conjunction with this tunnel, which will vary based on your transmission. To discuss this further please contact Autoworks directly via phone or email.

  1. Can this transmission tunnel be used with a factory center console?

A: A factory center console will not fit this tunnel without modifications to the tunnel and console. Here at our shop we were able to make a ’69 Mustang manual center console fit over our tunnel by notching the top of the tunnel. Right out of the box, no it will not fit, but with modifications it may be possible.

  1. How does the Autoworks transmission tunnel affect the driveline angle?

A: Our tunnel is critical to achieving proper driveline angle with modern engine and transmission packages. Original Mustang tunnels are not wide enough to accommodate most modern transmissions and thus doesn’t allow for proper placement of the engine inside the engine compartment and transmission tunnel. Failing to achieve proper placement of the engine and transmission can result in poor driveline angle and cause substantial vibrations and premature failure to your rear differential, transmission output shaft and driveline.

  1. What kind of transmission tunnel insulation is recommended?

A: We highly recommend a combination of Heatshield Products Sticky Shield and DB Skin, and we have a pre-cut insulation kit to be released in the future. Please contact us to get on the pre-release list.

  1. What steps should be taken to ensure a proper fit during installation?

A: We recommend reading through our installation tips found on the installation tab of this web page, as it details our recommendations for a proper installation. Please note that this is a fabricated sheet metal product, and as such it’s up to your discretion as to how to install and finish the project.
